CA Baton Permit Training

This course is required by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and the State of California in order to legally possess a baton while on duty. This Course is 8 hours:

Students will learn the Legal, Moral, Ethical, and Safe deployment of the Police style Baton. Topics covered are legality, liability, and safe handling. Students will learn BOTH the Straight Baton and the Collapsible Baton.

Our BSIS Baton course is an 8-hour certification program that blends state-mandated legal theory with the world-renowned ASP (Armament Systems and Procedures) training system. The first half of the class focuses on the moral and legal aspects of baton usage, including the “use of force” continuum, de-escalation tactics, and liability management. This ensures every student understands the gravity of carrying a defensive impact tool and the strict California regulations governing its use while on duty.

The second half of the course transitions into hands-on practical application based on the ASP Basic Certification (ABC) curriculum. Students will master the fundamentals of carrying, drawing, and expanding the baton, as well as high-level striking and blocking techniques designed for real-world effectiveness. By utilizing ASP’s simple and proven “easy to remember” movements, this class provides the technical proficiency needed to defend yourself and others with confidence and professional restraint.
