NRA Range Safety Officer
The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) course is a specialized program designed to develop the essential knowledge, skills, and attitude required to organize, conduct, and supervise safe shooting activities. This non-shooting classroom course focuses on the administrative and supervisory roles of an officer, covering the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), range inspections, and the enforcement of range rules. Participants learn how to deliver effective safety briefings and manage the firing line with authority, ensuring that all participants follow established protocols to minimize risks in a shooting environment.
Throughout the session, the curriculum explores the technical aspects of range management, including emergency procedures and the safe handling of various firearm types to clear stoppages and malfunctions. The program emphasizes proactive supervision and situational awareness, preparing candidates to handle high-pressure scenarios and maintain a secure atmosphere for diverse groups of shooters. Designed for experienced individuals aged 21 and older, the course concludes with a formal assessment of the candidate’s ability to oversee range operations. Successful completion grants an official RSO certification, providing a nationally recognized credential for those looking to work or volunteer at shooting facilities.
This course satisfies the training requirements to receive a Utah CCW Non-resident Permit. You do not need to have a California permit to apply. Get more bang for your buck by adding the Utah CCW to your list of licenses.
